Truly fascinating! It makes me wonder why we don’t find the 10 mahavidyas and their particular sounds, behavior and looks in other Indian religions, not even speaking about religions of other parts of the world?

There is probably no answer to this question and even if it would not help on the journey. Nevertheless a very interesting question!

Thank you for reading, dear Georg!

The thing I’ve found is that the Dasha Mahavidyas are universal in their representation of the macrocosm and microcosm, as well as the roles they play in our sadhana. This is regardless of whether we are aware of their iconography or their existence. They represent aspects of our psyche and how we will encounter them no matter what path we are on. It just so happens that the tantras have personified these universal aspects into the deities. Of course, if you’re a tantrika, and invoke them this way in sadhana, they’ll appear in this way to us! If not, they’ll appear in other ways specific to the path. Does it make sense? 🙂
