Well written and such a great message to remember and to teach our kids. I’ll have to keep this in mind when my kids misbehave, too and take a moment of clarity. Pinning this and thanks for sharing!

Enjoyed reading this and it couldn’t help but bring to mind a “parenting” issue before me–although I am not the parent, but grandparent, who cares for my grandchildren at least one day a week. I am perplexed by so many younger parents who say they are “toilet training ” their children. This is said usually considering a dramatic beginning to a week or so that will devoted to the parent “training” their child. Having a little granddaughter who is a few months past two years, I like to think we (as adults–her parents and grandparents etc.) will “facilitate” her becoming acquainted with the process of toilet training–she will be in charge, not us. We are doing our best to make acquaint her with the toilet (little potty seats etc.), and the process. I hope I am not being naïve in t hinking that given respect and assistance she will really make the decision on her own (sans M and M’s). Anyway, reading your post made me think of this issue and I think helping the child learn for themselves, with our assistance, begins early….
